Bio
Professor Mart铆nez focuses on the intersection of violence and body politics in Latin America. Her two main areas of research are: representation of historical violence recent cultural production; and gender and sexuality鈥攑articularly transgender studies. Her book "" was released in December 2020, and is the winner of the 2021 William M. Leo Grande Award.


Professor Mart铆nez regularly teaches courses on Latin 麻豆果冻传媒 literature, film and history; gender and sexuality; Latin 麻豆果冻传媒 feminisms; narratives of violence (particularly in Colombia and Mexico); and women writers in Latin America.


Within the AU community, Professor Mart铆nez is also part of the advisory board of the Women鈥檚, Gender and Sexuality Studies program, and a member of the Center for Latin 麻豆果冻传媒 and Latino Studies (CLALS).


Recent publications include the book (loosely translated as Trans-ing knowledge: trans* people鈥檚 education in Argentina). Co-edited with Salvador Vidal-Ortiz, and published with La Universidad Nacional de La Plata (2018), the book gathers the personal narratives of 33 trans students and teachers as they reflect on the challenges and opportunities of trans-inclusion in 3 different sites of public education in Argentina.
