For students enrolled in the Master of International Service and the Master of Arts in International Relations at Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½'s School of International Service the world is their classroom. While the convenience of virtual learning allows them to balance their studies with work and life, there's an undeniable desire to experience international affairs beyond the screen. This yearning for global engagement is what draws them to the transformative study abroad opportunities crafted by the Office of International Programs. Students benefit both from the traditional study abroad programming, as well as online Practica opportunities that offer in person traveling components.ÌýÌý

This summer, students selected programming that will take them to Belgium, Kenya, and The Philippines. Each country offers a unique on the ground experience into the field of international affairs, allowing them to combine theory with real-world application.ÌýÌý

Beyond academic enrichment, these study abroad experiences equip students with cross-cultural competencies and global perspectives that are invaluable credentials for aspiring leaders in international affairs. As they navigate diverse cultural landscapes, they hone their communication skills, forge meaningful connections, and develop a globally conscious mindset.ÌýÌý

We connected with some of the students participating in study abroad opportunities this summer and asked them what they are most looking forward to during their time abroad. Read their responses below and stay tuned for our follow up interviews after they have returned from their travels.

The Philippines

Najja Lyle SIS/MAIR '24

This practicum with the CPN in the Philippines is an exciting opportunity to develop my M&E skills by creating impactful tools that strengthen their network of Women and Child Protection Units. I'm eager to learn from their expertise and contribute to their critical mission of protecting vulnerable women and children.

Getting hands-on experience in this, especially with Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½'s and Professor Fischer's expertise, will be extremely valuable. Combining this with learning more about the local culture in the Philippines will be an experience that I surely will remember for years to come!
